Quick Eclipse & RPD update, Teacups & Tissues reminder!
Happy Total Solar Eclipse Day!
At some point, I’m going to talk to you about going all-in. It’s listed in my draft each time I open one of these to write to you, but that point is not today.
Today is the new moon in Aries and a Total Solar Eclipse. We won’t have a full view of the eclipse here in Raleigh, but we will have some changes, and we’ll all feel the impacts to some degree if we’re paying attention.
Speaking of paying attention, let’s do that. What are your thoughts on this new program from Raleigh Police Department? I got the below description in a newsletter from Shop Local Raleigh, of which I’m proud to be a member.
CONNECT RALEIGH: CAMERA REGISTRY PROGRAM
The Raleigh Police Department (RPD) has implemented a video camera-sharing public safety program to help their work in keeping the community safe.
The camera registry program helps build an interactive map of security cameras in Raleigh that will:
Be accessible only to the Raleigh Police Department;
Increase the efficiency of direct video evidence collection;
Enable communities to work together to create a safer Raleigh; and,
Provide immediate camera owner contact information for investigators
•Participation is voluntary & allows law enforcement to have knowledge to increasing real-time information for data-guided emergency responses.
•Raleigh Police Department users do not have access to your cameras once shared
•RPD will not share your information with anyone else and will only contact you if a crime occurs in your area.
Share your security camera locations allows Raleigh Police Department to have knowledge of what cameras exist so that in the case of emergency or response, they can reach out to those in the database first. If you would like to connect your camera, head to connectraleigh.org or scan the QR code.
Remember last year when we talked about how WiFi can potentially spy on you and how there is tech that allows WiFi to determine what humans are in a building like in The Dark Knight? Well, what if instead of spying WiFi, you just literally gave your government permission to spy?
And at what point does a crime have to be committed for them to peek into your security footage? What if a crime was suspected? Does that count? And what if no crime was reported but a crime is caught on your camera footage? Like red light cameras, which we’ve also talked about before.
Once again, I’m just asking questions. What do you think?
Okay, back to the eclipse thing.
This one really caught me by surprise, but in this Forbes article, they discuss how NASA is firing three rockets at the solar eclipse. That all sounds perfectly fine.
But this one teensy little bit stood out to me:
And by “teensy” I mean the largely bolded text heading of a paragraph about how they’ve named the program for launching rockets at the eclipse after the Egyptian serpent spirit of evil, darkness, and destruction. They’re launching them at 3:33pm Eastern Time. Occult much, NASA?
So hopefully that all goes well. Let’s all enjoy the eclipse, eh?
Teacups & Tissues tonight! 6pm at TriangleCRC!
